Keywords:

The research focuses on the social and infrastructural features of rural areas in the North of the Republic of Kazakhstan and is based on ethnographic interviews conducted in the the villages of Kapitonovka and Voznesenka of the Akmola Region. The document consists of two parts: the first part analyzes the problems of the inhabitants of both villages in detail and the second compares the analysis to the general trends in the country’s rural territories. The study is mainly focused on the social capital accumulation and distribution strategies in rural communities. Authors conclude that changes of social capital distribution have become one of the main issues for the villagers and their wellbeing. The result of the study illustrates the development of sustainable and unsustainable connections in rural settlements and how disposition of these connections and changes in socio-economic background will affect the migration to cities either on rotation shift or constant basis.
