The interview with Svyatoslav Murunov discusses the general methodology and working principles of an analytical tool widely used in Almaty — the Citizen Survey. Svyatoslav describes the structure of the survey and shows the main stages of its application and interpretation. Gradual development of the structure and principles of the survey, through empirical work in different cities allowed the author to create a flexible tool that can work at a variety of scales. The editorial comments afforded the opportunity of the empirical tool of the Citizen Survey to be placed within the broader theoretical and research context of contemporary social debates, including those concerning the specifics and limitations of the survey methodology.
